Top-ranked West Hancock tops Saints

BRITT — From the opening kickoff that was recovered by top-ranked West Hancock, the Eagles keyed on turnovers to hand St. Ansgar a 32-0 loss at their place on Friday, Oct. 7.
In total, West Hancock recovered four Saint fumbles, one for a 31-yard touchdown on the Saints’ first offensive play as the Eagles built a 26-0 halftime lead.
St. Ansgar dropped to 3-2 overall, 2-2 Class A District 2.
“We felt good going into the game,” Coach Drew Clevenger said. “It was disappointing to find ourselves down two touchdowns less than two minutes into the game. Our effort was never lacking, but we obviously didn’t execute offensively. The defense played hard the entire night and did a lot of good things.”
The home team, also known for a solid ground game, pulled out its bag of tricks by showing the Saints a passing game with quarterback Mitchell Smith throwing for three touchdown passes, all to Rylan Barnes, with a long of 40.
