Saints rally by Vikings

ST. ANSGAR — The Saint boys’ basketball team forced a late turnover on Northwood-Kensett and secured a 71-70 Top of Iowa East Conference win over the Vikings on Monday, Jan. 16.
With the shot clock winding down in the last minute of this game, St. Ansgar was forced to put up a shot that didn’t go and N-K rebounded the miss, calling timeout in order to try and set up a winning shot.
However, co-coaches Jason Squier and Eric Kline’s team played good defense in the final 18.1 seconds, as a Vikings’ pass sailed out of bounds with 1.8 seconds to go. The Saints needed only to inbound the ball, which was secured by Ryan Hackbart as they snapped a four-game losing streak dating back to before the winter break.
“We were all really excited,” Squier said. “The conference is very balanced this year, and every game is a battle. I thought we did a nice job of staying focused, and we kept battling to get stops defensively. We also hit some very big shots in the second half…”
