Saints get by Bearcat defense
By Kristi Nixon
GREENE — St. Ansgar coach Scott Cakerice will give North Butler (4-11, 2-9) credit where it’s due – the Bearcats play a solid man defense.
Said defense gave the Saint girls’ basketball team some fits early, but they made their adjustments to put together a 53-24 Top of Iowa East Conference victory at Greene on Friday, Jan. 20.
“The kids played hard,” Cakerice said. “Sound defense for the most part. North Butler girls, they play decent defense, they do. A good man defense. Give them credit. With their record, some would just pack it in, but they play hard.”
They improved to 9-5 overall, 7-4 TIC East, holding on to third place in the conference behind West Fork and Osage.
Addison Tabbert, who set the school mark for three-pointers in a game earlier in the week, led the Saints with 10 points, this time all from within the arc.
“That’s good for us,” Cakerice said. “We need that from her.”
