Saints down Rockford in regular-season finale
By Kristi Nixon
ROCKFORD — Even not feeling their best, the Saints shook off a feisty Warrior team at their place to finish off the regular season on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
Fighting off foul trouble in the first half, Hunter Hillman, who recently set the school mark for rebounds in a season, came back to finish with a game-high 21 points, 17 in the second half, hauling down 14 boards to add to his career mark, now at 248.
Also breaking the school record for three-pointers in a season recently was senior Tyke Remster, who was sporting a shaved his head as part of a promise if he did so, although he was 0-for-2 from the field against the defense of Rockford in the 40-36 win.
Not the prettiest of games for co-coaches Jason Squier and Eric Kline, with numerous charge calls on both sides, the Saints were able to pull through and solidify a third-place finish in the Top of Iowa East Conference at 15-6 overall, 12-4 conference.
“We told the boys, ‘You’ve got to be focused,’” Squier said. “Rockford plays their rear ends off. They play hard, they go hard. Not making excuses, but we’ve got some guys not feeling the best right now. That makes a difference, too…”
