ST. ANSGAR — The St. Ansgar boys track and field team had a pair of golds for senior Ryan Hackbart in the throws and sophomore Dylan Brumm in the sprints as the Saints were edged by Nashua-Plainfield for the team title (141-138) at their home meet on Tuesday, March 28.

Junior Drew Powers also earned three top-three medals in the sprints/long jump for coach Drew Clevenger’s team.

“All in all it was a good night for competition,” coach Clevenger said. “We saw some pretty good performances for this early in the season. There were a lot of correctable mistakes that we can fix in terms of starts, hand-offs, technique and race strategy.”

The Saints went 1-2 in the shot put with Hackbart’s effort of 46 feet, 10 inches followed by freshman Braden Halvorson’s throw of 41-7.25. They mirrored that feat in the discus with Hackbart going 142-8 and senior Ethan Brown second at 135-4.

Brumm crossed the finish line in a strong 100-meter dash at 11.93 seconds to win and went 23.73 in the 200 to finish ahead of Osage freshman Quinn Street in both races.

Powers was runner-up in the 400, long jump and third in the 200.

Osage earned wins by Brayden Onken in the long jump and Michael Johnson in the 110-meter high hurdles, with relay victories in the 4×100, 4×200, sprint medley and shuttle hurdle as the Green Devils scored 121 points for third.
