JANESVILLE — Riceville overcame a slow start to take a 27-26 halftime advantage against Iowa Star North Conference team Janesville.

However, the visiting Wildcats couldn’t sustain it in an eventual 66-50 loss to the home Wildcats on Monday, Jan. 10.

“Monday night’s game was a big test for our guys against the seventh-ranked team in the state,” coach Matt Schwade said. “We played them toe-to-toe all night and proved we belong.”

Conference second-leading scorer Wiley Sherburne came to life, scoring 12 unanswered points from 2 minutes, 25 seconds in the third quarter until the end of the period.

Sherburne led all scorers with 27.

Foul trouble for both teams in the first half got to Janesville a little more as the visiting team outscored the 11-2 home squad, 20-11, and took their first lead with just 5.6 seconds left until halftime.

Isaac Kuhn picked up his third foul a little less than six minutes into the game and Janesville commanding a 10-4 advantage.
