Powers breaks through goal at Clear Lake

CLEAR LAKE — A quick turnaround was no problem for Saint sophomore Lila Powers.

The cross country runner for St. Ansgar had just medaled at Osage’s meet two days before and had another top-10 finish at Clear Lake’s Veterans Memorial Golf Course on Thursday, Sept. 14.

“It went pretty well,” Powers said. “We just had a recovery run in-between, but I had a really fast race on Tuesday, so I was a little worried that I wouldn’t be ready for that, but I was really close to breaking 21 minutes (at Osage), so that was my goal for today. I got that, so I’m just ready for at least a week until our next meet.”

Indeed, a new PR for Powers, crossing the finish line in 20:58.79, was good for seventh and another medal.

Further goals for her, she called a stretch, including going for the school record time, held by Addy Carlson, which is 20:02.

“I’m a minute away from that,” she said…
