Osage boys pound North Butler
By Kristi Nixon
GREENE — Osage was without coach Mike Brahn.
North Butler had its big man, Corbin Lewis, back.
But the Green Devils still scored a second sizable win over the Bearcats this season, 55-35, on Tuesday, Jan. 25.
Brahn was out with illness and Lewis was back from the first meeting on Dec. 14, 2021 when he was sick, however, that didn’t make a significant difference.
“The kids did a good job of taking away their inside game,” assistant coach Ryan Huffman said. “We didn’t rebound as well as we normally do, but limited their shots which helps, obviously.”
Lewis, who averages 12.2 points per game and averages a little more than 50 percent from the field, was held to just two points against Osage. The 6-foot-6 junior was seen staying long after the game, which started early due to severe wind chill warnings, putting up shots on his own.
Meanwhile, Osage senior guard Tyler Oberfoell started out hot, hitting two straight three-pointers and finishing with 17 points after scoring 13 in the first half. Oberfoell was 4-of-8 from the three-point line, three in the first half.
He finished with a solid line, adding eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
“Tyler, for me being the JV coach, is kind of fun because I’ve seen him the whole way through and coached him at all levels,” Huffman said. “Tyler continues…with his shot selection, which is very good, and he works as hard as anybody to put up shots in the off-season and he’s worked hard for everything he’s earned, so it’s nice when he gets going early.”
