Senior post torches Central Springs in Saint victory
By Kristi Nixon
ST. ANSGAR — From the moment he started this Top of Iowa East Conference basketball game against Central Springs, Hunter Hillman felt like he could do just about anything he wanted on the court.
The senior post for the Saints scored 16 points in each half en route to a game-high 32, tallying his ninth double-double of the season with 13 rebounds in St. Ansgar’s 69-51 win over the Panthers.
“Right away, when I started off, I don’t know what I had in the first, but I knew I could get inside and finish,” Hillman said. “And then, the fast break, I could run it, and ended up with a lot of buckets.”
And with a couple more blocked shots against the Panthers, he leads the state among all classes going away in blocked shots with 74. The closest competitor is 15 behind him.
Earlier this season, he broke the school record for career blocks. He says it’s no big secret to how he’s done it.
“I’m just tall and jump a little bit, and that’s the key, I guess,” he said. “I don’t know. (And) yeah, (I time it right).”
