Johnston’s future lies at UNO
By Kristi Nixon
OSAGE — Osage senior distance runner Katelyn Johnston had a lot of options when it came to where she would go to college.
In the end, the best choice for the Green Devils’ two-time state cross country medalist and three-time state cross country medalist, with another season to go, chose the University of Nebraska Omaha.
“I really liked the coach, it was a really good fit,” Johnston said. “I liked the campus and the college and a lot of the girls I met down there were really nice, and I just got along with them well.”
With her school/athletic/life balance, Johnston is used to juggling several things at once, having competed in two sports at once with both girls’ basketball and wrestling last year, so doing both with the Mavericks shouldn’t be a problem for her.
“I’m doing cross country in the fall and then I’ll go right into indoor track and then outdoor track,” she said. “So, it’s a year-round thing, but I’m pretty excited.”
