Green Devils fall to Warhawks in OT

SHEFFIELD — Osage boys basketball team weathered the first quarter onslaught against West Fork to force overtime, but struggled in the extra period, being outscored 10-0 to fall to Top of Iowa East Conference champion Warhawks on Monday, Feb. 5.

West Fork got out to a hot start, leading 22-6 after the first quarter with a variety of shots ranging from rim-rattling dunks to deep three-pointers.

The Green Devils had a spurt in the second quarter as West Fork’s shots stopped falling for a lull to stay within single digits at halftime.

It wasn’t until the fourth quarter, however, that coach Mike Brahn’s Green Devils started making the run that forced the extra period.

“Even the second quarter on, our defensive effort was locked in,” Brahn said. “They got off to a hot start there, 17-18-20 point lead, whatever it got up to there. For our kids to close that down at the half, and then cut it even more after the third quarter and be able to tie the thing up at the end. We’ve got a really good look out of Isaac (Houdek) there – I thought that could have been an and-one…”
