Flickinger to take over as Osage athletic director
By Kristi Nixon
OSAGE — The Osage School Board officially approved Ryan Flickinger as the new athletic director on Monday, June 28, replacing long-time administrator and coach Michael Henson, who will become athletic director at Muscatine High School.
Flickinger has been Associate Athletic Director of Compliance and Recruiting at Waldorf University in Forest City for the last several years.
Originally, from Denver, Iowa, Flickinger went to Waldorf College when it was a two-year school and played baseball.
“After the two years, I went to UNI, didn’t play baseball,” Flickinger said, “and then Waldorf turned to a four-year university, so I came back, finished school and finished playing baseball.”
He was a two-time team captain and Waldorf Male Athlete of the Year in 2005.
Flickinger did some athletic training for a short time before returning to his alma mater in 2007.
“I directly worked at Covenant Hospital in Waterloo, training with area athletes,” Flickinger said. “Then the opportunity at Waldorf opened up to become assistant baseball coach and admissions counselor; I coached baseball for seven years, three as head coach, then turned to some athletic administration. I was either assistant AD, or athletic director over the years. I was eventually looking to make the jump to high school athletic director, and Osage presented the opportunity to jump ship.”
