Osage fourth at Battle of Waterloo

WATERLOO — Osage head coach Brent Jennings will be the first to say his team is not the same as it was a year ago.
Aiming to defend the Battle of Waterloo title, his Green Devils were missing a few key components in dropping to fourth with losses to three quality Class 3A schools on Saturday, Dec. 16.
Already without Max Gast as he recovers from off-season surgery, which was a known factor, top-ranked 2A 138-pounder Blake Fox was home with an illness during the Green Devils’ 57-14 loss to 3A No. 4 Linn-Mar, a 56-24 defeat to 3A top-ranked Bettendorf and then lost to eventual BOW champion Indianola, 49-20. The Indians are unranked, but do have six individuals in the top-10.
“He was puking all night, sick,” Jennings said of Fox, who went 3-0 the previous day. “He was pretty sick last night, just didn’t feel it was in his best interest to come today and feel like crap, try to compete. Wasn’t going to be much fun for him.
“So, we left him at home, not to give it to other people, as well. He’s about six pounds underweight after throwing up all night, not good. It’s the right thing to do – let him heal up for Tuesday.”
