Cruising down the Street
DES MOINES — Right out of the gates, the Osage came ready to go.

The first heat of the first event of the meet, the Green Devils’ girls shuttle hurdle relay ran the second-fastest time of the preliminaries despite the weather — a steady sprinkle — to advance to Saturday’s Class 2A final in the event in 1 minute, 7.83 seconds.

“We all ran really smooth and all knew what we had to do and got it done,” anchor Paige Kisley said.
br
Meredith Street qualified for Saturday’s final in the 100- and 200-meter dash and scored points for the Green Devils with a fifth-place finish in the open 400 in 58.18.
“I was running against some really good competition,” Street said. “I knew this was going to be a super-hard race, so I’m happy with how I did and excited for Saturday.
“I’d say I feel pretty good, my legs are shot, but I should be ready to go by Saturday.”
Street admitted she felt about 60 percent after running all three of her individual races on Friday.
“I’m pretty tired.”
Claudia Aschenbrenner said, “We had practice early all this week, practice in the morning the whole time because all of our events are before 2 p.m. That really helped us.”

It was a first-time state experience for shuttle hurdle relay runners Aschenbrenner and Ainsley Dodd.

“It’s been a really good experience,” Aschenbrenner said. “A little nerves.

Dodd added, “I agree with Claudia, it was a little nerve-wracking, but once we got on the track we were ready to go.”

Katelyn Johnston got the Green Devils on the board in the 3,000, scoring an eighth-place finish, good for a point.

She ran 10:54.58.

“I feel pretty good with that,” Johnston said. “I’m glad I placed and I’m glad I made it to state and had a chance to run here.

“It’s not my best time, but it’s still really good, so I’m happy with it.”
Osage, after the first day and session, is tied for 16th place with five other teams with five points.
“Awesome,” Street said. “I think everyone is performing at their best right now and it’s really exciting for everyone starting to PR and get better and it’s exciting to see the shuttle hurdle is already in the finals and a lot of other girls still have a lot of races to run, so that’s really awesome.”
