“We’ll be better for districts next week,” Powers vowed. “Thatbris not going to happen again. I don’t know. Sometimes things happen and Godbrdidn’t want us to win this one (event). Just trust Him and hopefully better thingsbron the way. Sometimes, you can’t win them all.”

Besides that, Powers and the Saints had plenty to celebrate, brscoring the TIC East title with 154 points, besting runner-up from the hostbrschool, Central Springs (122). West Fork was third with 77 and Osage finishedbrfourth at 71.

“He deserves it and so does Riley for winning the athlete of thebryear,” Powers said. “They’ve been putting in so much work. Coach Clev has beenbrmonumental to making me to where I am today. So is Riley: he’s always pushingbrme to eat better, sleep better, he’s just a great guy to have on the team. Abrlot of team chemistry.”

brbr

Powers couldn’t hide his elation in taking the 100 in a meetbrrecord 11.40 seconds, followed by teammate Ryan Cole, who also broke thebrprevious mark. He let out a huge ‘YES!’ following the win.

brbr

“I just think coming into it I knew I had a lot of competitionbrand I was coming off of a meet where I perform the best that I wanted tobrperform at,” Powers said. “Just being able to glorify God and get that win wasbrsomething really fun for me.

brbr

“First open conference win (for me), so it was great.”

brbr

brbr

“(We were) really motivated,” Powers said.
br“Since we started in March or February, whenever the first day of practice was, brour goal was always to win conference. Last year, we didn’t have it because ofbrCOVID and two years ago we got second, definitely a goal every year and we camebrout hungry and got the win, so it’s good.

brbr

“You’ve got to give a shout-out to Sage, he gets us a lot ofbrpoints. Set a meet record in the discus.”

brbr

All told, St. Ansgar recorded 21 top-five finishes in the 19brevents.

brbr

“Talk about an unsung hero: we’ve got Matthew Hall in the 800,brLorne Isler gets a point in the high hurdles, Aslan (Wills) gets two points inbrthe mille, Ryan Cole was supposed to get fourth in the 100 and 200 and he gotbrsecond in both, just stuff like that doesn’t get noticed,” Powers said. “It’sbrthe stuff like that gets you to the win, big things help, but it’s the littlebrthings that mattered. It’s what we preached all year and it’s good to see itbrcoming into fruition.”

brbr

This should only serve as a springboard for the Saints at thebrdistrict meet in Northwood.

brbr

“We’ve got a lot of guys with potential to go and as long as webrexecute,” Powers said. “There is no reason we can’t bring a lot of guys downbr(to state).”
