Local organizations continue to give back to community

The bedrock of any successful community are the organizations and individuals that donate their time and money to support it.

St. Ansgar is pretty fortunate to have a number of those groups and individuals that are willing to make our community a little bit better for tomorrow — as evidenced by the new and improved fishing access completed north of town this summer.

With donations from the Lion’s Club and the Sons of the American Legion, Mitchell County Conservation was able to put in new gravel and pavement at the Turtle Creek access point north of St. Ansgar just off Highway 218.

The new improvements provide handicap access, and allow the elderly to enjoy fishing as well. Jon Koster said when he’s stopped in and visited people using the new fishing access, the anglers are grateful for the opportunity it gives them to enjoy the popular pastime.

“We’re getting lots of positive comments, a lot of [people] say ‘thanks for doing this’.” Koster said.

Croell and L.R. Falk also pitched in by donating some of the rock and concrete work to complete the project.

The Lion’s Club and the American Legion are just a few of the local organizations that hold fundraisers for community initiatives throughout the year, and while fishing might not be for everyone, it’s nice to see the positive impact being made in our community.
