rElementary students got the chance to see what local businesses are up to around St. Ansgar last week.

The students from several grades marched around town as a part of “Career Pathways” day, which introduced students to local businesses and employees, who each gave demonstrations on what they do and why it’s important for our local economy.

“They always have a great time,” said Kim Brackey,  a school counselor.  “I look forward to running into them in the halls and classrooms in the days to follow to hear their stories and the things that excited them the most!”

Each grade got to tour a few different businesses, and even us here at the EJ didn’t miss out on the fun.

Two groups of second graders popped into the office, and we showed them how to gather news, take photos of events, and design and piece together the newspaper each week.

Then, the students helped us make a mock newspaper front page, along with a story the kids helped create.

The kids were asked to come up with verbs, adjectives and nouns to replace words in a story, to come up with their own goofy news article.

Here’s what one of the groups came up with:r

rToday, St. Ansgar Police have reported that a highly valuable roll of duct tape has been stolen.

When police arrived at the scene of the crime, which was at the St. Ansgar Museum, several clues were discovered.

r

Claire saw a furry elephant leaving the scene. The detectives have also found several clues which point to only one person who could have committed this crime. Their leading suspect is Mrs. Kruse of St. Ansgar, Iowa.

r

Currently, Kruse has been working at the school as a second-grade teacher. Allegedly Kruse would sneek out of school while the kids were playing tag during reccess, and ride her pet pig around town looking for valuable things to steal.

r

Local residents are cautioned to avoid leaving doors and windows unlocked and to report any loud  hot chocolate to the police detectives until Kruse is captured because she may be armed with a Walking Taco.

r

rThe kids had a fun time learning about the local businesses, and had lots of interesting questions. Maybe some day, they’ll start businesses of their own!
